After Bayer Leverkusen’s renewed last-minute success, Bundesliga bottom team SV Darmstadt 98 made a non-serious offer to the almost invincible German football champions on social media.
“Bayer Leverkusen, can you finish our season? Then the relegation will work,” wrote the Hessian club on the short message service X (formerly Twitter). Bayer responded to the message with a winking smiley: “If you provide enough added time.”
Leverkusen made up a 2-0 deficit in the home game on Saturday evening in a 2-2 (0-0) draw against VfB Stuttgart. National player Robert Andrich’s late equalizer (90+6) saved the club’s super streak, which has now been unbeaten in 46 competitive games.
Darmstadt was almost relegated
Darmstadt is bottom of the table with just 17 points from 30 games. The Hessians have to score points in the home game on Sunday (7.30 p.m./DAZN) against 1. FC Heidenheim in order to maintain the theoretical chance of staying in the league. With a defeat the Lilies would definitely have been relegated.
