About thirty others were injured, six of them in serious condition. There were 55 people on board at the time of the accident: two drivers and 53 passengers. There is currently no clarity about the identity of the victims.

The emergency services are on the scene en masse: several rescue helicopters and ambulances were called, nearby hospitals have been asked to prepare. The highway is closed in both directions and drivers in traffic jams have been asked to keep a rescue lane clear. The A9 is an important highway between Berlin and Munich.
