Seven dismembered bodies “with written messages” discovered in Mexico.

Mexican authorities discovered the dismembered bodies of seven suspected gang members near the city of Puebla on Friday. This was reported by the local attorney’s office.

The bodies were found in a vehicle abandoned on the side of a busy road, prosecutor Gilberto Higuera told the press. Five of the victims had been decapitated.

According to the prosecutor, the perpetrators left a “written message” on each body, explaining the reason why the victims were killed. For example, the pieces of paper said “drug trafficking”, “theft of a means of transport” or “extortion”.

Puebla is a popular tourist destination in Mexico, especially for its gastronomy and colonial-era architecture. But the city has not escaped the violence of organized gangs, which continues to plague other regions in Mexico.

More than 450,000 people have been killed in Mexico since the federal government launched a controversial military offensive against drug traffickers and criminal gangs in late 2006. Most became victims of crimes, official figures show.
