Shaanxi Celebrates the New Year with More Than 1,800 Cultural Tourism Feasts

The province of Shaanxi is gearing up for a joyous and culturally rich celebration of the New Year with the launch of over 1,800 “cultural tourism feasts.” These festive activities, organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, are set to take place from January 18 to March 11, 2024, in order to provide a vibrant and engaging experience for both local residents and visitors from across the country.

The variety of activities has been carefully curated to encompass six different aspects, including high-quality theatrical performances, mass cultural events, and displays of intangible cultural heritage. This diverse offering aims to create a cultural and tourism extravaganza for the Spring Festival, catering to a wide range of interests and preferences.

Highlights of the planned events include 12 Spring Festival galas and a multitude of key exhibitions throughout Shaanxi province. More than 400 performances of 149 dramas, operas, and stage plays are set to captivate audiences, while rural “village evenings” and various themed activities will bring communities together in the spirit of the New Year.

In addition to the artistic and cultural festivities, Shaanxi province is also keen on boosting winter tourism consumption by launching over 200 products, including rural tourism, study tours, and hot spring vacations. The city of Xi’an, for example, is set to host numerous activities that celebrate New Year customs and festivals, creating a truly immersive experience for visitors.

Furthermore, the 2024 Spring Festival “Celebrating the New Year in the Ancient City” event will be held in Yulin City, featuring traditional paper-cutting competitions and national Yangko performances. Shaanxi will also showcase its rich intangible cultural heritage through online and offline activities, highlighting the unique flavor of the New Year.

To further promote Shaanxi’s cultural and tourism resources on a global scale, the Shaanxi Art Troupe will embark on international tours in countries such as Tunisia, Morocco, and Japan, presenting characteristic theatrical performances and intangible cultural heritage exhibitions.

In a bid to make these festivities more accessible to everyone, the Shaanxi Cultural Tourism Benefiting Platform will issue special coupons for New Year performances and discounted tickets for tourist attractions. Additionally, certain scenic spots will offer free entry during specific periods or to targeted groups.

The province of Shaanxi is certainly pulling out all the stops to welcome the New Year with an abundance of cultural and tourism experiences, ensuring that the festive period is filled with joy, excitement, and a deep appreciation for the region’s rich heritage.
