The European Gymnastics Championship ended in Rimini, Italy, where Ukrainian athletes won four medals.
The 20-year-old vice-champion of the world Ilya Kovtun, who won two gold medals, performed brilliantly at the competition. First, the athlete from Cherkasy became the European champion in parallel bars, showing the best result in this type of program in the last 8 years (15.663 points). Our athlete surpassed the absolute champion of Europe, the Cypriot Marius Georgiou (14.866) and the Swiss Noe Seifert (14.833).

And then Kovtun surpassed all his rivals in the beam competition (14.600). “Silver” in this type of program went to the Lithuanian Robert Tvorogal (14.566), and “bronze” to the Cypriot Georgiou (14.366).
By the way, the athlete from Cherkasy surpassed his last year’s success in Antalya, Turkey, and now he is a three-time European champion.
Let’s add that our Olympic champion became the vice-champion of the Old World in the absolute championship Oleg Vernyaeva Nazar Chepurny for the first time climbed to the podium of the European championships, winning “bronze” in the pole vault.
Earlier, FACTS reported that Ilya Kovtun withdrew from the prestigious tournament due to the participation of a Russian athlete in it.
