Months of nightly work will start on the Antwerp ring road (R1) on Monday to make the road surface quieter. The Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) has fine grooves cut into the concrete road surface to limit the rolling noise of vehicle tires.
Work on the highway towards Ghent will start on Monday evening, April 15. These works will start at the Antwerp-East junction and end at the beginning of June at the bridge of the Kolonel Silvertopstraat on the South. The sides are then switched and the road surface towards the Netherlands is being tackled. Everything should be completed by the beginning of September.
The works will only take place in the evening and at night, to limit traffic disruption as much as possible. In the evening the start time is at 9 p.m. at the earliest, and on weekdays everything is cleared again at 6 p.m. at the latest. On Saturdays you can work until 9 am.
In principle, two lanes will usually remain free in the construction zone, exceptionally – and only after midnight – only one. If the construction zone is located near an entrance or exit, this will also be closed.
