Udu protest in front of the Palazzo della Regione

(ANSA) – TRENTO, MAY 15 – “Every year it becomes more and more unsustainable to look for a house in Trento, especially for students who are beneficiaries of scholarships but not accommodation”. So to ANSA Sofia Scandola, representative of the National Student Council, in front of the Palazzo della Regione, where the protest of the students of the University of Trento against the high rents, organized by the University of Trento, has begun.

“According to Immobiliare.it, Trento ranks seventh in Italy for the average cost of a house. Seventh place among much larger cities, such as Padua, Milan and Bologna”.

The demonstration takes place in front of the Provincial Council.

“We ask for a response from the institutions and a comparison. At the moment there is a serious issue of underfunding of the University, but also of the University Opera which, since the Province has not been able to make up for effectively, had to raise tariffs”, adds Scandola.

“Last year an agency offered me a room that didn’t even have a window inside,” says Diego Cirillo, Udu Trento’s organizational manager. What would you say to those who criticize the student protests? “Sacrifices must be made, according to the rhetoric that is read on social media and by the political classes. It is not true that students do not make sacrifices: there are also male and female students who work”, he says.

The students will propose programmatic points regarding “The Province we would like” and will organize a “social dinner”.

After that, a dozen of them will stop to sleep in tents in front of the Palazzo della Regione. (HANDLE).
