A Tragic Homicide: Honduran Man Killed in Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh, North Carolina – The Raleigh Police Department responded to a tragic incident on Saturday, February 24, when they received a report of a shooting in the 3300 block of Quail Hollow Drive. Honduran José Ignacio Márquez Díaz, 23, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Elder Nahún Banegas Mencía in connection with the murder. The crime was captured on security cameras and reportedly took place in front of the victim’s residence.

José Ignacio Márquez Díaz, originally from Siguatepeque, had no children and was one of ten siblings. Having migrated to the United States eight years ago, he tragically lost his life in an act of violence.

The victim’s family is now seeking to repatriate his body to Honduras for a Christian burial. To help cover the costs, they have set up fundraising accounts at Banco de Occidente and Banco Atlántida, in the name of María Ángela Díaz. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been created to collect donations for this cause.

The Honduran community in North Carolina and beyond has been left devastated by this senseless act of violence, and many are coming together to support the victim’s family during this difficult time.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist in bringing justice for José Ignacio Márquez Díaz and his loved ones.
