Rome, 14 March 2021 – Gianmarco “Gimbo” Tamberi contracted the Covid-19. To announce it through a post on Instagram was the same athlete from the Marches who returned from Torun a few days ago where he won the silver medal at the indoor European high jump championships. Tamberi made it known that he had had high fever and exhaustion for a couple of days, but to feel much better now: “I waited a few days to tell you my friends – reads the post -. I was expecting to feel good again and find the right words … Unfortunately, upon returning home after the European Championships in Torun, after 72 hours, I discovered that I was positive for this damn virus. Fortunately I am fine: apart from a high fever (39.9 °) and headache for the first two days I have no other symptoms and the situation has normalized quickly. I’ve tried to warn anyone I’ve met these days but, if I’ve forgotten anyone, please let me check to make sure you’re okay ”.
The warning
Tamberi at the same time he wanted to warn everyone about the danger of a virus which for the past year has been bringing health systems around the world to their knees and causing hundreds of thousands of deaths: “I will not do a post amateur drama because because of this disease there are so many people who are really sick, instead I would like to invite everyone to be very careful in any situation. Yellow zone does not mean “the virus does not exist” and red zone does not mean “I have to find a way to …”, it is certainly not me who has to say what a delicate period we are going through and to judge behavior, I just want to convey my experience … “. The jumper born in 1992 has finally even hypothesized that the contagion took place inside the Torun “bubble”: “Those who know me know that for three months before the European Championships I didn’t see a soul to risk nothing and luckily it went well … Now I find myself positive because I was infected in one of the situations that seemed safer to stay. A bubble made ad hoc where everyone was buffered. To enter and stay in that bubble I had to do 5 swabs and like me whoever was inside it, yet something went wrong. Never let your guard down my friends, do it for those who risk really sick if you are not afraid for yourself, do it for your loved ones, do it for all those who have not received a salary for months … Let’s do it because we have to go back to live . as far as my positivity is concerned, I will keep you updated, but really don’t worry about me, I’m fine! ”.
