Tax, revenue of 756 million from the economy of the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone – News

Direct employment in the terminals, in the companies supplying labor and services (articles 16 and 17) in the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone (they are under the same Port System Authority) was 4,058 units (2021 data ), to which are added those employed in the primary related industries (various services, shipping agents, shipping companies) for a total of 8,967 units. In terms of tax revenue, the contribution of the port economy was estimated at more than 756 million (51.4% of the added value), of which 636 were paid by companies resident in the region, distributed between the State (266 million) and the Region (370 millions). These are some of the data presented today at the Lloyd Tower of the Port of Trieste, the result of a study on the impact of the port economy of the two ports in terms of employment, production value and taxation, by the AIOM – Maritime Operators Entrepreneurial Agency of Trieste, chaired by Sergio Bologna.

Employment in secondary related industries, understood as the logistics market area in the broadest sense, was estimated at 5,810 units, which brings the overall total to 14,777 work units, which the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone were able to mobilize.

The annual value of production was 1,909 million, including primary related activities. Adding the estimated value of production in the secondary industries, we arrive at 4.3 billion.

“If we take into account that the data, by necessity of having them definitive, refer to the year 2021, a period in which the Coronavirus pandemic had not yet ended, the judgment can only be sufficiently positive” comments Zeno D’Agostino, president of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea. “The difficulties encountered at the level of traffic, particularly felt in the supply chains, have not affected the levels of manpower employed. Indeed, logistics services have revealed themselves, precisely in this period, to be essential services for the very survival of people. Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone have kept their connectivity indices and their position in the international context unchanged, as exchange platforms between Europe and the Middle East”, he specified.

“In terms of tax revenue, – underlines Sergio Bologna – the Fvg Region has benefited from the activities of the port economy even more than the State. It is a fact that can be useful to reflect on when important reforms are announced in the field of regional autonomies Just as it is worth reflecting, within the framework of sustainability parameters (ESG), on the importance of public governance, which can allow important levels of resilience precisely in moments of crisis, such as those produced by the pandemic”.
