Volunteers took care of setting up the facility that will accommodate 250 people on the Ukrainian border

UDINE. Set up and delivered, ready for use, to the Bratislava authorities. The Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in fact, has recently completed the construction of the refugee camp with 250 places, a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border, thus passing the baton, as required by the protocols, to the local authorities.

Set up in Michalovce by volunteers from Friuli Venezia Giulia, the camp was delivered in the presence of the Italian ambassador to Slovakia, Catherine Flumiani, the undersecretary of the Bratislava government Vendelin Leitner and the director of regional civil protection Amedeo Aristei.

The facility has already been visited by Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger, Interior Minister Roman Mikulec and the European Commissioner for Emergency Response, Janez Lenarcic, who also met with representatives of the Civil Protection and regional volunteers. To the Friulians, Flumiani expressed, in particular, his deepest appreciation for their generous availability which represents “the best testimony of the solidarity between Italy and Slovakia and of their closeness to the Ukrainian population”.

«We are proud of the work of our volunteers – commented the commissioner with responsibility for Civil Protection Riccardo Riccardi -. We have completed the task that we had been given quickly and now we will continue to concentrate on the double track of on-site assistance and that, including health surveillance, in favor of those who arrive in Friuli Venezia Giulia ».

Finally, the third shipment of medicines and medical supplies that left Palmanova (the new single national collection hub for the donations of the Regions) arrived regularly at its destination, this time on the border between Romania and Ukraine, exactly one week ago during the President’s visit. of the Mario Draghi Council.
