Giorgio Jannuzzi lived a long life, a well-known person in the city for having carried out his profession as an engineer at Olivetti and for having been councilor and city councilor, who died peacefully, at the age of 93, last Thursday 9, at the Ivrea hospital. He was born in Pallanza, now a hamlet of Verbania, he lived in Genoa for a period, then he returned, with his marriage, to the Verbano area, until 1955, when he moved to Ivrea to work in Olivetti and stayed here, both for the quality of the work, both for the proximity to the mountains, his great passion.
“He loved the mountains very much – confirms his daughter, Elisabetta – and continued to enjoy it even in old age, dedicating himself to walking and hiking, so much so that, at the age of 90, he still made a climb to Monte Zerbion”. To recall this passion, an edelweiss was printed on the epigraph, at the foot of a cross, a symbol of his profound faith. Even the Municipality of Ivrea has posted participation manifestos with which the mayor and the administration, participating in the mourning for his death, recalled his having been councilor and municipal councilor for the city. «Around the early Eighties – recalls Elisabetta – he was councilor for Vocational Training and Social Security and also for Culture. And in that role, as well as in other situations in which he moved, he tried to reduce as much as possible the inequalities between people and to give everyone access to a dignified life. For him this was both a personal and religious as well as a social criterion and he has always been committed to these points. It is no coincidence that he presented himself in the elections with the Communist Party, despite being a practicing Catholic ». «He was a great father and a great grandfather – sums up the daughter – and he was, above all, a person always in solidarity, capable of overcoming all kinds of grudges. When he happened to have a controversial exchange of views with someone, he never took long and tried to close it quickly: he was not a person of machinations and spite, considering them a waste of energy for himself and for others “. There are many people who, in recent days, have clung to Elisabetta and her brothers, Maria Chiara and Paolo with their respective families, and to their mother, Anna, to bring them comfort, remembering the missing friend of whom they will keep for always dear and grateful memory.
