The flood account in the Belluno area: 180 million in damage

by admin

The Province has concluded the survey to be sent to the government. For now, losses suffered by private individuals are excluded

BELLUNO. A multitude of landslides, overflowing streams and damaged roads. The bad weather at the beginning of December was another very hard blow for the Belluno area, with just under 180 million euros in damage. This is the sum of the reports received by the Province, identified as the implementing body by the commissioner delegated to the weather emergency Nicola Dell’Acqua. This is a part of the damage, because it exclusively concerns public assets. Private assets remain outside the calculation.

“Now let’s move on to the second phase, that of transmitting data to the emergency commissioner, in the hope that most of the requests will find economic coverage”, explains the president of the Province, Roberto Padrin. «Then we will proceed with the disbursement of resources and with the execution of the restoration interventions, which we hope will find full coverage and be rapid. The fact that the Province has been identified as the implementing body is an important fact, which brings the solution of problems closer to the territory ».

There are many municipalities and institutions that have reported damage caused by the bad weather in December. Especially landslides and floods. “A demonstration of a widespread fragility in the area, made even stronger after the events in Vaia”, comments the provincial councilor delegated for soil defense Massimo Bortoluzzi.

In the count stands out above all the Alpago basin, where the flood in Puos and the landslides spread between Chies and Tambre have caused almost 50 million in damage reported between the Municipality, regional forest services and other entities (30 million euros only for the territory municipal of Alpago); but also Val di Zoldo and Longarone where the damage is close to 40 million (over 20 million in Val di Zoldo).

Followed by Borgo Valbelluna (just under 10 million), Gosaldo (around 12 million), Livinallongo (just under 15 million), and Feltre (around 5 million). There are many territories in which the sum exceeds one million euros, while damages of at least 5-600 thousand euros are widespread in almost all municipalities.

“These are landslides, landslides and floods, which have destroyed hydraulic works and stretches of roads”, emphasizes Bortoluzzi. «We hope that similar weather events will not occur again, but unfortunately in recent years we have often had to deal with similar damage. First with Vaia, then with the weather emergency of November 2019 and with the events of the end of August 2020. And finally the flood of last December. These are all emergencies that once again highlight how much our territory would need real specificity, that is to say human and financial resources to meet the needs. Also because the 180 million euros of damage recorded so far concern public assets, but we know that many private individuals have also lost cars, basements, appliances and other properties. The Province has already started a survey of the damage also to private individuals and we will soon see to draw conclusions ».
