It has been published online and can be downloaded on Report 2023 Open innovation in Emilia-Romagna by the agency of Emilia Romagna region Art-ER with Crif e Oper.Lab, the open innovation observatory of the University of Bologna.

The document makes available the mapping work of the protagonists of open innovation in region with emerging profiles and trends. The goal is to share useful knowledge to strengthen an inclusive ecosystem.

Here is the work of each of the three actors in the report in detail: Art-ER has mapped the behavior of companies thanks to Mia (open innovation mapping), Oper.lab those of innovation intermediaries e Crif the relationship between innovative companies (including startups) and businesses.

Emilia-Romagna leader in open innovation, first among the Italian regions

Italy reads in the report: “It highlights a difficulty in keeping pace with the most advanced realities, and many of its regions are classified as moderate innovators, with some exceptions, includingEmilia Romagnathat yes confirms itself as a leading region for innovation in Italy (strong innovator). An excellence within the national context, recording a significant improvement in its innovation capabilities (+15.8% compared to 2016), with strengths such as international scientific publications, public-private collaborations, application design and sales of innovative products“. Emilia-Romagna is the first region in Italy for open innovation.

The first part dedicated to the quantitative investigation is followed by the second characterized by a qualitative approach where Oper.lab partner organizations tell their story and through the case studies presented, we illustrate how open innovation is implemented and how companies organize themselves to
achieve the expected results.

The report concludes with the themes and results relating to the open discussion between Oper.Lab, intermediaries and companies. The outcome of seven thematic tables who faced various challenges and proposed solutions to enhance the open innovation network.
