[Epoch Times, May 17, 2022]Recently, an epidemic broke out in Linshui County, Guang’an City, Sichuan Province. The number of infected people continued to rise and spread to Chongqing and Shenzhen. According to state media, the source of the outbreak points to returnees from Shanghai.
On May 10, Linshui County implemented global closed static management. On the 12th, Huaying City, adjacent to Shui County, also implemented temporary global static management. Wusheng County and Yuechi County have successively issued notices that residents should not go out or enter public places unless necessary.
On the 17th, Guang’an City officially reported that on the 16th, Guang’an City reported 15 new local confirmed cases (all in Linshui County) and 72 new local asymptomatic infections (all in Linshui County).
Linshui County is the epicenter of the current round of the epidemic in Guang’an City. Since May 9, there have been more than 588 local infections. (Because the CCP is accustomed to concealing the truth of the epidemic, the outside world generally doubts that the official figures have shrunk significantly.)
According to an official report from Guang’an, the source of the virus was traced to the Omicron BA2.2 variant.
Earlier, Lu media reported that the first infected person in Linshui County was an online car-hailing driver who traveled between Linshui and Chongqing for a long time.
However, according to a report by “China Philanthropist” on the 17th, the first infected person in Linshui County was not an online car-hailing driver, but a person who returned to Linshui from Shanghai. A staff member of the Linshui County Epidemic Response Headquarters said that patient No. 0 was a returnee from Shanghai, and “the driver of the online car-hailing car took the person who returned from Shanghai.”
In addition to Guang’an City, there are also cases of infection in Bazhong, Leshan, Dazhou, Ziyang and other places.
A catering business owner in Linshui County said that on May 9, after the county immediately entered a state of closed management, all the catering industries were closed, and takeaways were also suspended.
Since May 10, three close contacts of car-hailing drivers in Linshui County have been found to be infected in Jiangbei District, Yubei District and Nan’an District of Chongqing City. According to the Guanghan Financial Media Center, as of 8:00 on May 10, the outbreak had also spilled over to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
As of 24:00 on May 16, there were 3 medium-risk areas in Sichuan Province, all concentrated in Dingping Town, Linshui County.
Due to the heating up of the epidemic, Guang’an City officials announced on the 16th that from 0:00 on the 17th, the entire area of Qianfeng District (including Guang’an Economic and Technological Development Zone) and the entire area of Guang’an District (including Zaoshan Park and Xiexing Park) will implement temporary static management.

Several residents of Linshui County told The Epoch Times on May 16 that the local city has been closed for more than a week, and the people are complaining because of the severe shortage of living materials.
