Since the system, a total of 452 blood stations have been built across the country, and the number of unpaid blood donations has increased for more than 20 years, from 328,000 in 1998 to 15.53 million in 2020, an increase of 47 times. Guo Yanhong introduced that up to now, more than 4,700 convalescent plasmas have been collected across the country, totaling 1.47 million ml, and nearly 500,000 ml of convalescent plasma has been allocated across regions.
At the same time, the level of informatization of blood management and blood donor services has continued to improve. In 2019, a national blood management information system was established and activated, realizing the dynamic management and interconnection of blood collection, supply, testing, deployment, inventory, and blood donor information from 452 blood stations across the country. Relying on the information system, the blood donation records of all blood donors since the implementation of the “Blood Donation Law” in 1998 have been gathered at the national level, and a unified national electronic blood donation certificate has been realized. This year, the National Electronic Unpaid Blood Donation Certificate will expand the two functional modules of “Blood Donation Navigation” and “Opinion Feedback”, which will help blood stations to further improve the quality of blood donation services.
The off-season for blood collection is coming soon, can the routine blood demand be met? “Generally speaking, we regard 7 days as a standard value of safety stock. Since June, the national blood stock has averaged more than 12 days, which is higher than the safety line. It can be said that the stock is sufficient.” Guo Yanhong said. The National Health Commission will further strengthen the monitoring of the overall blood inventory, increase blood allocation, and ensure that the clinical treatment of patients is not affected. At the same time, it calls on more healthy citizens of the right age to actively donate blood during the off-season blood collection.
