Due to alleged links with ‘Los Rastrojos Costeños’, the Supreme Court of Justice announced an investigation against the president of Congress.
The Special Investigation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice announced the opening of a prior investigation against the current president of Congress, Iván Name, in relation to possible links with the armed group ‘Los Rastrojos Costeños’. The decision is based on the statements by former paramilitary Juan Manuel Borréknown as alias Pistón, who linked the president of the Senate and congressman José David Name with said group.
Magistrate Héctor Alarcón, in charge of the case, will be responsible for collecting all relevant evidence and testimonies, including the interrogation carried out on alias ‘Pistón’ after his capture as a member of the paramilitary group. According to information released by the media, ‘Pistón’ stated that the Names received political support from ‘Los Rastrojos Costeños’.

Currently, the case is in the preliminary phase, which implies that the reporting magistrate’s office will listen to the version of the president of the Senate to understand his perspective on the events under investigation. Subsequently, it will be determined whether there are merits to initiate a formal investigation process.
In his statements, ‘Pistón’, who joined ‘Los Rastrojos’ after his time in the paramilitary group, assured that “that organization politically supported the Name family in the Atlantic, both Iván Name and his cousin, José David”. According to him, the influence of ‘Los Rastrojos’ was evident in campaigns carried out in neighborhoods of Barranquilla, contributing to the electoral success of the Names.
The investigation process seeks to clarify the veracity of the accusations and determine any involvement of political leaders with illegal activities.
