The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council addressed the growing interest of Taiwanese netizens in Gansu Tianshui Malatang during a press conference on March 27. Spokesperson Chen Binhua responded to a reporter’s question regarding the recent popularity of the dish among Taiwanese tourists visiting the mainland.
Chen expressed his delight at the positive reception of mainland Chinese cuisine and culture by Taiwanese youth, stating, “Mainland food, beautiful scenery, and pop culture are particularly easy to gain popularity among Taiwanese compatriots, especially young people.” He attributed this phenomenon to the shared heritage and customs of both sides of the Taiwan Strait, emphasizing the common identity of being Chinese.
In response to concerns about differing perspectives between the mainland and the DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) in Taiwan, Chen encouraged Taiwanese visitors to the mainland to experience the reality for themselves. He also urged them to question why the DPP may be spreading misinformation or distorting facts.
The Taiwan Affairs Office’s statement highlights the cultural connections and shared experiences that unite both sides of the Taiwan Strait. As more Taiwanese individuals explore the mainland and embrace its traditions, a sense of unity and shared identity continues to thrive.
