The Togo-France Dialogue and Partnership Council (CDP Togo-France) organized this Tuesday, February 13, a training workshop on the challenges of disinformation in West Africa for media professionals in Lomé.

Placed under the theme “what optimistic narrative about West Africa in the era of disinformation?” », this meeting aims to provide the necessary tools to media professionals in order to escape the trap of fake news, amplified by social networks and facilitated by artificial intelligence.

Thus, eminent trainers including Max Carmel Savi, Noel Kokou Tadegnon, Komlan Tchalla spoke to the participants on several themes linked to disinformation in West Africa.

“The question of disinformation is one of the urgent problems, especially when it comes to distinguishing truth from falsehood in the era of virality on social media. The CDP Togo-France felt the need to participate in strengthening the capacities of journalists and wants to provide them, with trainers and experts on the subject, with tools to truly enable them to do their work even better,” said Elisabeth Apampa, responsible for of communication of the CDP Togo-France.

Going in the same direction, Fabrice Petchezi, president of the Togolese Media Observatory (OTM), stressed that the world is invaded today by a lot of information, most of which is false.

“Disinformation is a challenge for the press today. This workshop therefore answers this question of equipping journalists with the necessary techniques which allow them to distinguish truth from falsehood on everything that digital technology offers us today as an advantage,” he said.

The Togo-France CDP is a permanent exchange council on the Refoundation of Togo-France/Africa-Europe Cooperation.
