The weekly data on Covid, the cases continue to grow (7.8%) but there is no surge

by admin

An almost identical increase to that of last week. The decline in new coronavirus cases in Italy does not begin, the pandemic is still in a phase of slight rise that was not expected in the middle of August and which for experts is linked to the Delta variant, whose effects from the point of view of the severity of the disease are however contained by the vaccine. In the week that ended yesterday, the new positivity was 44,335 against the 41,097 of the previous seven days. The growth was therefore 7.8%, slightly less than the 8.2% of the previous one. Since the beginning of June, there were also increases of 102, 85 and 51%. The number of tampons is stable, which in the week between Monday 9 and yesterday were 1 million and 432 thousand and in the previous seven days 1 million and 462 thousand.

Only 4 Regions fall, the case of Sicily

There are only 4 Regions where the data is decreasing (last week there were always 4 plus the 2 autonomous provinces). Here is the data. The Province of Bolzano Passa goes from 159 to 283 almost (+124, + 77.9%), the Calabria from 1,082 to 1,541 (+459, + 42.2%), the Province of Trento from 193 to 274 (+81, + 41.9%), la Sicily from 5,097 to 6,833 (+1,736, + 34%), la Puglia from 1,567 to 1,926 (+359, + 22.9%), on Molise from 58 to 71 (+13, + 22.4%), the Piedmont from 1,405 to 1,667 (+262, + 18.6%), la Liguria from 886 to 1,051 (+165, + 18.6%), la Basilicata from 314 to 365 (+51, + 16.2%), la Campania from 3,226 to 3,580 (+345, + 10.9%), la Tuscany from 4,421 to 4,880 (+459, + 10.3%), on Lazio from 3,724 to 4,052 (+328, + 8,%), theAbruzzo from 616 to 659 (+43, + 6.9%), la Lombardy from 4,568 to 4,842 (+274, + 5.9%), la Sardinia from 2,289 to 2384 (+95, + 4.1%), theUmbria from 825 to 858 (+33, + 4%), theEmilia Romagna from 4,152 to 4,163 (+11, + 0.2%). To risk the passage in the yellow zone from next week is only Sicily. To leave the “white” classification, the occupancy of the beds must be higher than 10% for intensive care and 15% for ordinary wards. Sicily is at 9 and 15% therefore not far from the limit. The control room is surveyed on Tuesdays and therefore tomorrow it will be understood whether or not the passage will take place.

This is why Sicily is at the bottom of vaccinations and first for infections, hospitalizations and deaths. We asked three experts

Over a fifth of extra beds occupied in intensive care

Hospitalizations also follow the growth trend, which are affected by the trend of cases with a delay of fifteen days. Yesterday in the Italian wards there were 3,546 people with Covid, against 2,930 on Sunday. This is 616 more patients, or 17.3%. Last week the growth had been double, that is 34%. In intensive care yesterday there were 384 people, against 299 on Sunday 8 August. There are 85 more serious patients, that is 22.1%. In this case, the increase is more than double that of last week, when it was 10.3%. We are about a tenth of the hospitalizations compared to the worst days. On April 4, there were 3,700 people in intensive care.

Deaths are on the rise, averaging 30 per day

Yesterday the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic rose to 128,432. During the week 212 people lost their lives due to Covid, that is 30 a day, compared to 152 in the previous week. The increase started two weeks ago continues. The figure is not high but confirms that the trend in deaths follows that of cases a few weeks later.
