With days of cleaning, awareness, release of wildlife species and environmental education, were some of the actions developed by the Mayor’s Office of Valledupar, together with entities such as the Government of Cesar, Corpocesar, Aseo del Norte, Army and National Police, among others. others. In addition, they released species such as hicoteas, boa snakes and babillas in the Sicarare wetland, located in the Leyenda Vallenata park in Valledupar.
“From the administration of Ernesto Orozco we join the commemoration of World Wetlands Day, we invite you to join in the preservation of our environment. These awareness days are the starting point for the attention, care and maintenance of the three wetlands established in Valledupar,” said the Secretary of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, María Martha Lacouture.
The city also has the María Camila wetlands, located in the María Camilia neighborhood, and the El Eneal wetland, in the El Eneal neighborhood. They are established within the urban perimeter and currently have conflicts due to inappropriate use by citizens. , the deposit of garbage and waste, as well as problems due to climate change, which keep them vulnerable for their conservation.
“Wetlands and human well-being” was the theme for World Wetlands Day 2024. The campaign exposed the interconnection between wetlands and human life, as people draw sustenance, inspiration and resilience from these productive ecosystems.
