Joint border control procedures initiated by the National Security and Customs services at the port of Tangier, this morning, Monday, March 11, resulted in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 13 kilograms of heroin on board a utility vehicle coming from Spain.
Scanner examinations of the car registered in the Netherlands resulted in the discovery of a bag tucked under the bottom of the engine containing thirteen kilograms of substances suspected of being hard drugs.
The seized shipments were subjected to a preliminary examination that proved they contained heroin, which necessitated their seizure and referral to the National Laboratory of the Scientific and Technical Police in order to subject them to in-depth technical and forensic expertise.
A judicial investigation was opened, upon instructions from the competent Public Prosecution, with the driver of the impounded car, a 63-year-old Moroccan citizen who holds Dutch citizenship, in order to uncover all the circumstances, circumstances and backgrounds of this case, as well as to determine its possible national and international connections and extensions.
