According to Unión Radio, the UCV received a more than dramatic duel tonight between the sharks and the islanders, who starred in a give-and-take battle that raged in 11 episodes.
Under this scenario, the character of the team led by Oswaldo Guillén came to the fore, which seems unbeatable at this point in the season and is one win away from securing qualification to the final for the second consecutive season.
And with this celebration, Tiburones de La Guaira reached 9-1 in the Round Robin and extended its advantage over third place to 4.5 (Leones del Caracas with 4-5) with six games still to be played.
That is why if they achieve one more victory for their account and reach double digits, they will ensure their presence in the final instance.
A scenario that, at this point, already seems uphill for Bravos de Margarita due to their bad moment in the campaign, in which they are fourth with 3-6, 1.5 games from that second place.
Therein lay the importance of today’s duel at the UCV, where both teams fought a battle of resistance, power and perseverance.
At first, the focus of the clash fell on the starters: Luis Martínez (Sharks) and Félix Doubront (Bravos).
The pitchers remained unbeatable on their snouts and the scores took until the 5th inning, when Margarita took the lead.
Luis Sardiñas opened the key with a triple to the center with which he drove in a couple of scores. Later, David Rodríguez followed him with a single to the same sector that made the score 0-3.
Already with the advantage, Doubront continued his performance on the mound, where he remained until the 8th inning when La Guaira threatened in what was his penultimate offensive at that time.
The veteran could not complete the inning and, after two outs, he left, leaving two runners on base for Luis Pacheco to come into action.
However, the right-hander could not get the zero and, instead, was beaten by the visiting slugger, who hit him three times through Alcides Escobar, Danry Vásquez and Miguel Rojas to form a five-run rally that turned the scoreboard .
The panorama had changed and now it was Bravos de Margarita, who was on the ropes in the match and had to face Arnaldo Hernández in the last passage.
However, they still had something more to say in the match and, in the 9th, they tied the scores thanks to an error by Escobar when fielding a ground ball by Luis Sardiñas, which ended up allowing Edgar Durán and José Martínez to step on the plate.
