Over 150 tractors arriving from various centers in the province of Trapani paraded, in three stages, through the main streets of Marsala. The provincial secretariats of Confsal, Copagri, Feder.Agri, Fna, Confagricoltura and Liberi Agricoltori organized the protest, proclaiming the “state of agitation” of the farmers of the province “to urge concrete interventions from the national and regional governments”. They were joined by the farmers of the “Guardians of the Territory” association of Marsala.
The aim of the mobilization, the promoters explain, is to urge the national and regional governments to “four urgent measures on which the survival of a large part of agricultural companies depends: immediate compensation for the damage suffered in the previous and current agricultural campaign, such as floods and prolonged periods of drought and heat; the immediate liquidation of all agri-environmental measures; payment of temporary aid for the cost of energy; activation of tax credits for the purchase of all means of production”.
The trade organizations that called the protest have announced that on Tuesday, in Rome, the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida will meet Cipriano Sciacca, regional secretary of Confsal and member of the national secretariat of Feder.Agri. “This – says Sciacca – is only the beginning of a dispute which could extend indefinitely and involve the other Sicilian provinces”. The agricultural companies also ask for the possibility to reinvest the “profits” in the company, “with the dual aim of improving the production cycle and remaining competitive on the markets after the damage caused by the pandemic first and by the war scenarios after they have caused double, if not triple, production costs.”
