These two gang members from Barrio 18 received sentences of 15 years in prison for having extorted a merchant from El Paisnal, department of San Salvador, reported the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

According to the public ministry, both criminals came to the victim’s business to demand $50 dollars a month. The merchant paid the rent for five months for fear of being murdered until he filed a complaint.

Thanks to the recent reforms to the Criminal Procedure Code, these dangerous gang members were prosecuted and sentenced in absentia by the First Sentencing Court of Santa Tecla.
