Oostduinkerke/De Panne –
A serious accident involving a pick-up occurred in Oostduinkerke on the night of Friday to Saturday. A Dodge RAM 1500 went off the track, hit several trees and crashed into a garden fence. There were five people in the car. A 49-year-old passenger was seriously injured, as was another occupant. The others were slightly injured.

The accident happened at 3.25 am on the Koksijdesteenweg between Oostduinkerke and Koksijde. A 25-year-old man from De Panne was driving a Dodge RAM 1500 in the direction of Koksijde when things suddenly went wrong for an unclear reason. In a bend the driver lost control and went off the track. The heavy pick-up hit several trees next to the road and came to a stop against a concrete fence of a garden. The impact was particularly heavy, but none of the five occupants escaped from the vehicle.
After the accident, emergency medical services arrived en masse. Three ambulances and a mosquito service rushed to the scene together with the police. A 49-year-old man in the car appeared to be seriously injured, but his injuries are not life-threatening. Another occupant suffered multiple fractures and the three other occupants were slightly injured. The victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

Track closed for a long time
In the meantime, the West Coast police made the necessary findings and had the Koksijdesteenweg closed. The driver gave a negative breath and drug test. After the accident, the fire brigade was called to clean up debris and leaked engine fluids and to place signaling on both sides of the road. The track therefore remained closed for a while but was reopened before 6 am. The Dodge lost a wheel during the impact and was severely damaged. Perhaps the car is ready for the scrap heap. The vehicle was towed.
