Ukraine: Bulgaria, Prime Minister Petkov launches fundraising

Donate a month’s salary and ask fellow citizens to do the same

(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 26 – The Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Kiril Petkov, announced on Facebook the launch of a fundraising campaign for Ukraine and was the first to donate a month’s salary, inviting his fellow citizens to follow his example. This was reported by the Bulgarian and Ukrainian media.

“Sending military aid to Ukraine requires political but also social unity. There are many extreme views in the public sphere on the matter. I think the time has come to turn this public energy into real action,” Petkov wrote asking for financially help Ukraine “to purchase ammunition”.

“I ask all Bulgarian citizens who really want to help Ukraine to donate a salary like me. It is easy to talk, but to do is difficult: it is time for Facebook posts to become funds for Ukraine”, urged the premier in a post on the social network.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba publicly thanked Petkov. “We are grateful to the prime minister for starting a public campaign to raise funds for Ukraine and help us strengthen our defenses: this move demonstrates Bulgaria’s true solidarity with Ukraine,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

Bulgaria – recalls the Ukrinform agency – condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, voted in favor of EU sanctions against Russia and welcomed more than 90,000 Ukrainian refugees. However, there is no consensus in the four-party ruling coalition on whether to send weapons and ammunition to Kiev. (HANDLE).
