Ultra athlete Matthieu Bonne, known from the VRT program ‘Kamp Waes’, wants to run more than a thousand kilometers for a new record attempt. He reported this on Wednesday. Bonne will run a 6 Day Race on the STAX athletics track in Merelbeke on Sunday. The aim is to run 1,038 kilometers in six days, good for more than four marathons every day.

The race starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday, March 30. “It’s probably the hardest challenge I’ve ever taken on, I don’t know what awaits me, but I’m incredibly looking forward to it,” says Bonne.

Last year the sportsman broke the world record for ‘the largest number of kilometers cycling in a week’ and also the world record for ‘longest non-stop ocean swim’. With this record attempt he is aiming for a third world record in a third discipline in a year.

During the record attempt, the intention is to walk 20 to 21 hours every day. This leaves about three hours for eating and sleeping. “What makes it extra special for me is that it is my first big challenge that takes place in Belgium and where people can also see me at work live.”

Matthieu Bonne’s regular employee, Matthias Lievens, organizes the competition together with Matthieu’s plus-dad. “For a possible world record to be recognized, it must be run in an official competition with at least three official participants,” says dad Erwin. In addition to Matthieu Bonne, three more athletes will participate in the race. The athletics track at the Molenkouter in Merelbeke will be accessible to supporters 24 hours a day. Running with the athletes is not allowed, but supporters are allowed to come and watch.
