UniTrento team selected for ESA Academy Experiment Program – News

Witnessing the realization of your own space project, from conception to launch and then even returning to Earth with the possibility of examining the results: few scientists can live this complete experience firsthand, given that space missions have usually a time span of decades. This is not the case for eleven PhD students, male and female students of the University of Trento selected to participate in a completely unique scientific and human experience: the ESA Academy Experiments Programme.

The only Italian team among the seven that passed the tough selection of the European Space Agency, the UniTrento team will take their project into space, the particle detector called Sparkle.

Estimated departure by 2025 on board the Space Rider spacecraft and return to Earth no earlier than a couple of months.

Before, during and after the mission there is plenty of time to work side by side with ESA staff and see your ideas grow. In a word ‘learning’. The news of the selection of the University of Trento team arrived in recent days and was welcomed with great enthusiasm in the University and especially in the departments directly involved: Physics, which coordinates the project, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering and Information Sciences
