U.S. military C-130 cargo planes dropped food on platforms over the Gaza Strip on Saturday, three U.S. officials said, two days after more than 100 Palestinians who had left to get goods from a convoy aid workers were killed during a chaotic encounter with Israeli troops.
Three Air Force planes dropped 66 packages containing some 38,000 meals over the Gaza Strip at 8:30 a.m. ET, according to two of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity prior to a public announcement.
This is planned to be the first of several air deliveries announced by President Joe Biden on Friday. The aid will be coordinated with Jordan, which has also made air deliveries to bring food to Palestinians in Gaza.
