The US has approved the possible sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles to Morocco, as reported this Tuesday by the State Department of the North American country. The approximate value of the deal will be $260 million and will include 612 FGM-148F Javelin missiles and 200 Javelin light command launch units.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of an important non-NATO ally that remains an important force for political stability and economic progress in North Africa” , says the statement.
If placed, the order will be fulfilled by the Javelin joint venture, which includes Lockheed Martin and RTX Corporation. The document notes that the proposed sale “will not negatively affect US defensive preparedness.”
On the other hand, on Saturday, the Government of Niger announced the cancellation of an agreement with Washington that allowed the US Army to maintain its presence in the African nation. The statement came just one day after a US delegation, led by Undersecretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, left the country and was in Niger for three days. With RT
