Appeal of the association: the help of the whole community is needed. “At risk the management and opening of our portal”

LONGARONE. «Young people, come forward, the memory of the Vajont needs you». Renato Migotti’s appeal, on the traditional Survivor’s Day, which took place at the cemetery of the victims of Fortogna, a place in suffering due to the lack of volunteers.

The event, organized by the association “Vajont, the future of memory”, took place as last year in a reduced form for Covid. There was the deposition of a laurel wreath and a mass officiated by the parish priest Don Augusto Antoniol, embellished with the music of the violinist Carlos Garfias, the pianist Martina Capiotto and the trumpeter Antonio Camatta.

During the event, the appeal of the president of the association Renato Migotti was heartfelt, so that the opening of the museum portal of the cemetery is guaranteed: “I ask for the collaboration of the whole community”, said Migotti, “to guarantee the continuity of the service. in this place. Over the years, thanks to the Pro loco, the opening of the portal has been guaranteed by volunteers for a long period every year, from April and November, with openings intensified in the summer months, when many tourist visits are concentrated. Over time, however, many volunteers have moved away, both due to age and Covid. Fewer and fewer people are willing to help: so I ask everyone for a hand. We have to feel involved in the management of this place which most of all embodies the spirit of memory ».

Migotti then drew up an assessment of the activity carried out by the association. «We have been two years without official meetings, but our commitment has continued in various projects. We are waiting for the Municipality of Longarone to start the restoration work on the capital of Sant’Antonio, of which we have carried out the project, which has been approved by the Superintendency. We are working “, continues Migotti,” also to restore the old Ranz path on Mount Toc together with the Cai di Longarone, on the signage of the historic panels in the Vajont valley and in Codissago and on the restoration of the first road layout from Erto to Longarone with the involvement of various bodies such as civil protection, municipalities and Enel ».

But the main issue is the young. «It is increasingly difficult to guarantee generational change. There are fewer and fewer survivors for obvious personal reasons », continues the president. “Covid in this sense was nefarious, above all for having affected the aspect of sociality: some associations and groups that gave us a hand, especially during the walk, are now in difficulty and have almost stopped. It is necessary to start again in all senses, also because the desire for memory is always alive, as demonstrated by the success of the pedestrian walk at the end of September with participants from all over Italy ».

Migotti has not forgotten the Vajont Foundation: «The new course should start soon. They are in fact appointing the new director “, he concludes,” who we hope will give a turning point in the management of memory and an impetus to the activities of the Foundation. We tried to find Fr.posed on various issues, perfecting various aspects and also to bring the municipalities of Erto and Casso and Vajont into the corporate structure of the body. In fact, we are thinking of a change of statute, we hope that this can lead to improvements “. —
