Cecilia Rico Torres, director of Tax Management at the DIAN, announced last Friday, April 12, the suspension of nearly four million tax identification numbers (RUT) due to the lack of updated information by taxpayers. Despite the invitations made during the years 2022 and 2023 to update data, including email, a mandatory requirement since 2012, these taxpayers did not comply with the procedure.
It is crucial that citizens verify the status of their tax identification number, either by entering the DIAN website or by typing only their ID number. In addition, the situation of another 2.3 million citizens who have not updated their economic activity has been highlighted, which also constitutes a cause for suspension. Despite the update of the economic classification by DANE since 2020, many taxpayers have not taken the necessary measures. Citizens are urged to review their situation in the Single Tax Registry and prepare everything necessary for the presentation of their income tax return, whose due dates will begin on August 12 and will last until October 24.

During these four months, you can carry out the update process, request a digital signature if necessary and create an account that facilitates the presentation of the declaration in the electronic computer services of the DIAN. All channels of the institution are ready to guide and support taxpayers in this process, including contact points, the call center and the information available on the DIAN website.
