On March 16, the November ’89 movement meets in Žilina at its highest forum, which is a statutory assembly of delegates with the right to elect new leadership and adopt an extensive amendment to the statutes. 34 years is a special age for confirming maturity. The maturity of the Slovak parliamentary parties is a necessary prerequisite for the greater maturity of Slovak politics. In the past decade, it reached a state that is not capable of actively and conceptually solving national and international problems. Today, Slovak politics tends to pack problems. The state of the political scene burdens society more than it encourages it.
How many sites emphasize programmatic and how much on expediency and quick marketing? Populism thrives as long as there is something to give away. But the nation has to pay all the bills in the end. In the worst case, our children will pay for it in a much more expensive way. We have many politicians, few statesmen. The former think about the next election, the latter about the next generation.
How many parties in Slovakia will take the effort to formulate their basic, long-term program for the entire country with an overlap into European politics and international relations? How many pages can he formulate? Without a program, we are like people without a goal – wanderers. Without proven values and principles in everyday politics, we are like without a compass – we are lost. Let’s remember the years with covid. In this wandering, trial and error is a frequent and too expensive method.
It is not surprising that in this situation Smer acts as an experienced force that does not have a developed program, but has developed interests and is determined to pursue their implementation. The opposition is united only on the topic of defense of criminal codes and the Special Prosecutor’s Office. František Mikloško, a member of the KDH Deputies Club in the NR SR, recently expressed his concern that “there is no other alternative.” So it’s bad that Robert Fico will rule here for at least eight years, because nothing grows here”.
