The 2024 “Donrun Cup” Hainan Youth Football Invitational Tournament Kicks Off

Almost 300 young football players from across Hainan province participated in the inaugural 2024 “Donrun Cup” Hainan Provincial Youth Football Invitational Tournament. The event, which took place at the Yudong Youth Football Training Base of the Provincial Football Association, saw young athletes from 16 primary and secondary schools in 9 cities and counties, including Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou, Qionghai, Wenchang, Lingao, Baoting, Lingshui, and Qiongzhong, come together for a day of competition on January 29th.

The tournament, which is the first major youth charity football match held in Hainan Province in 2024, featured three different groups: primary school, junior high school, and high school. The primary school and junior high school groups used the five-a-side system, while the high school group used the eleven-a-side system.

Aside from the competition, the event also served as a platform for football charity teaching activities. The organizers selected Hainan university sports major college student volunteers to carry out one-month teaching activities in 8 primary schools in the province. Additionally, the tournament aimed to give back to the community by donating 320 footballs to the schools of the 16 participating teams.

The main goal of the event, according to organizers, is to establish an event system and promote football culture, ultimately improving the physical and mental health of Hainan teenagers, and tempering their will and quality.

The 2024 “Donrun Cup” Hainan Provincial Youth Football Invitational Tournament was hosted by the Dongrun Charity Foundation and Hainan Youth Hope Foundation, and was hosted by the Hainan Football Association. The event received positive feedback and was hailed as a successful endeavor in nurturing the next generation of football talent in the province.
