CAGLIARI. There is certainly no good air in the Cagliari locker room. Dark faces and almost resignation. Agostini had to make the man who consoles more than the coach who talks to his players about how the match went. «I hugged everyone – he says at the press conference -. And the game? “We tried to oppose but this Inter is really a very, very strong opponent.”
Positive notes? They seem few. “We have to start from those little things that went well and that we also saw against Inter – underlines the coach called to the rossoblù bedside after Mazzarri’s expulsion -. Also because the history of this championship is by no means closed, and therefore in this moment we have to try by force ».
A real pity not to have been able to please the public who filled the Unipol Domus swollen with hope. «At the moment – Agostini observes – we just have to recharge for the next match and for all these people who were at the stadium. But I think we respected our fans, as we did everything possible. But objectively it was a very complicated match against a really strong Inter ».
Lovato was left on the bench, technical choice? «Yes, because he evidently trained as well as the others. But having decided on a 4-man defense, I decided to field others. Then, to tell the truth, at a certain point we returned with a 5-man defense, because the solution was necessary since we were no longer able to cover in amplitude ».
It was not easy to take the team in such a difficult moment and just three days from the end of the championship. «When there is little time available to work with the team – says Agostini – you can act above all from a psychological point of view, you can’t do it differently given the situation. We will continue to work this week to try to keep hope alive until the end. We certainly don’t have to give up ».
Joao Pedro also speaks in the locker room. The captain is very shaken, on the verge of tears for the result that seems to condemn Cagliari to relegation.
