Alex Turrin president of Foen. “Scopel will always be by my side”

The former professional takes the field and will lead the company with which he had started making his first cycling races

FELTRE. Changing of the guard at the helm of the Foen Cycling Union. In fact, since the beginning of the year, the new president has been Alex Turrin.

Thirty years old on June 3, Alex made his first pedal strokes right in the home association, then reaching professionalism. In 2020 he made himself available as a director, now he has become its president, collecting the legacy of Alfonso Scopel. A heavy legacy, that of Scopel, president of the historic association continuously since 1980.

“A beautiful legacy, but Alfonso will still be by my side and alongside all the directors: his experience, his passion, his professionalism are essential to look at the present and the future”, begins Alex, a professional with Wilier Triestina , the team with which he raced the Giro d’Italia 2018. “I accepted the proposal and made myself available: for a sense of gratitude towards the company that made me grow and for a sense of responsibility: I believe it is right to continue to give children and young people the opportunity to practice road cycling ».

There are about thirty young cyclists who will wear the Foen jersey in this 2022.

“We have about twenty youngsters, two beginners and six students,” explains Turrin. «These are important numbers for a territory like ours. The goal is not so much to obtain prestigious results, as to make these young people grow well, teaching them the importance of making a commitment and carrying it out consistently ». As a tradition, Uc Foen will be engaged not only in the competitive field but also on the organizational front. “There will be six races that we will propose,” the new president says again.

«On 2 June the historic Foen Cup, which will be valid for the Allievi regional champion, and the two races for Esordienti of the Zandomeneghi memorial. In August, then, the Della Bianca Trophy for Giovanissimi and in September the Giro della Vallata Feltrina for Juniors and the women’s Open race ».
