Applause to Iris De Martin and Ambra Pomarè. Double silver in Finland

Vuokatti’s Youth Olympics ends with a bang. For the comeliana it is the third medal in Nordic skiing

VUOKATTI (FINLAND). Two medals from Belluno on the last day of competitions of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland. The wonderful experience of Iris De Martin Pinter from Como ends with a bang, who after a gold and a bronze also brings home a silver in the mixed Nordic ski relay. Yesterday the Ambra Pomarè also climbed the third step of the podium in the parallel slalom of alpine skiing.

Thanks also to the medals from Belluno, Italy thus closes second in the Eyof medal table, behind only Finland but in total winning more podiums than all the other nations. An absolute success that bodes well for the future and with a view to the Milan – Cortina 2026 Olympics.

Returning to yesterday’s performances, the Italian team first won a beautiful silver in the mixed cross-country skiing relay, behind an unbeatable Sweden, which however won with an advantage of just 15 ”. In addition to Davide Ghio, Hannes Oberhofer and Nadine Laurent there was also the Comelian athlete of the Carabinieri, Iris De Martin Pinter. The 2004 class of Padola was the author of a second fraction in scary classic. She immediately recovered the gap with the Swede leading the race, gaining a lot on her pursuers. Iris proved to be the most competitive in classic technique, as she had already shown last Tuesday by winning gold. At the exchange, Italy presented itself alone in the lead with a 7 ”advantage over Sweden, then losing ground in the last two fractions until the splendid final silver.
«I’m very happy», comments De Martin at the end of the race, «the sensations were good and I knew I could make a difference in classic technique. We did a great team test, it is an important medal that repays the work done by us athletes and our technicians, we are proud. After the results of the last few days we were determined to close this competition in the best possible way ».

For the comeliana this is the third medal in these youth Olympics.
«I left without expectations after some not very satisfying results. I struggled to get going on the first day, then everything went well, I got a lot more than I expected ».
In alpine skiing, on the other hand, Ambra Pomarè from Ambra Pomarè, under the Cortina Ski Club, won an excellent bronze in the parallel. The 17-year-old from Ampezzo managed to trim 82 cents behind the Andorrana Iria Medina Girones, after a very aggressive small final. Austria secured the two most valuable medals with Victoria Olivier’s gold and Natalie Falch’s silver. The winner Olivier eliminated Ambra in the semifinal, preceding her by 58 cents.
Among the Belluno athletes in the race, the sixth place and above all the great performance of Sara Scattolo in the mixed biathlon relay should be noted. The blue team, made up of the Comeliana, Fabiana Carpella, Mattia Piler Hoffer and Christoph Pircher, closed at 2’49 ” 8 from the French first classified. Sara, from seventh position managed to recover until she took over from her companion in second place. Italy, complicit in the errors at the shooting range, then lost ground to finish sixth out of 15 teams at the start.
In the evening the athletes from Belluno then took part in the exciting closing ceremony of the Olympic Festival.
«A wonderful moment in which to meet and discuss together with many athletes from other nations», comments Iris De Martin again, «to continue to grow we will also need these off-piste opportunities a lot».
Meanwhile, tomorrow Iris’s fellow villagers have prepared a party to celebrate the return to Italy of the young athlete after the three medals won. The appointment is for 4 pm at the Kral Ladin in Padola.
«I am very proud to carry the name of my village around the world», De Martin comments, «it is really worth a lot to me, I hope I have made my fellow villagers proud with these victories».
