The Italian first division club AS Roma is drawing conclusions: After crashing in the table, the club is now parting ways with star coach José Mourinho. His team recently had its worst season in more than 20 years.

AS Roma has parted ways with coach José Mourinho with immediate effect. The Italian Serie A club announced this on Tuesday morning. “On behalf of all of us at AS Roma, we would like to thank José for his passion and commitment since his arrival at the club,” Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said in a statement.

Mourinho’s time at AS Roma will be remembered fondly. However, an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. “We believe it’s necessary,” Friedkin said. The 60-year-old Portuguese has been the coach at the Roman club since 2021, but recently his work was unsuccessful.
