Axel Bassani, let’s get started. From today the weekend in Aragon
Axel Bassani

The Serenese rider returns to the start with the same bike but with a lot more experience. “The goal is to reach the top five at the end of the season”

ARAGON (SPAIN). It begins. Axel Bassani’s season restarts this morning, with the first Superbike appointment on the Aragon track, in Spain.
The Seren rider, in his second season in the category, will still be with the independent Motocorsa team and riding the Ducati V4 Panigale, the same one that made him experience an incredible rookie season. In the last championship, in fact, Bassani managed, race after race, to move up in the standings until he fought constantly at the top of the group.
Axel, what are your expectations at the start?

«The idea is to pick up where we left off, but it won’t be easy. The goal is the top five at the end of the season, a difficult but not impossible result. We are changing the way we work with the team and we are a bit behind our rivals, who managed to do more tests than us, but for what little we managed to run, we understand enough. The motorbike? It will be the same as last year, we will have to make the most of what we have. I will have more experience and it is an advantage that will be exploited together with the team ».
What are your feelings after the winter tests?
«Unfortunately we weren’t able to do many tests, when we were on the track there were low temperatures and we also had some electronics problems that didn’t allow us to try. Despite everything we have the idea of the direction we want to take, of course it will take some time but I am convinced that something good can come out this season as well. The first race of this weekend will be a good test. It is nice to finally be back in the racing environment, together with the other riders, after many months of winter break ».
Do you think they will always be the same players for the world championship or could there be some surprises?
“I think Rea and Razgatlioglu will play it again.” Jonathan is running strong, but Toprak has consistency as one of his best weapons. In addition to them there is also Bautista to keep an eye on, even if I see the first two more favorites ».
Do you like Aragon?
“It’s definitely not one of my favorites but you have to go fast anyway.”
Plan
Today: FP1 at 10.30, FP2 at 15. Tomorrow: FP3 at 9, Superpole at 11:10, Race 1 at 14. Sunday: Warm up at 9, Superpole Race at 11, Race 2 at 14. Live on Sky and TV8. –
