ROME. Meo Sacchetti is no longer the coach of the men’s national team. This was announced by the Italian Basketball Federation, announcing that, at the end of a meeting in Rome between the federal president, Gianni Petrucci, and the coach, the contractual agreement between the parties was resolved. Sacchetti, who had been in office since September 2017 and led the national team for a total of 50 matches, was expressed “heartfelt thanks for the professionalism and commitment shown over the years and best wishes for the continuation of his career”. The coach who arrived in 2017 at the helm of the national team should have remained in office until the European Championships in September and only a week ago, in Milan, together with Petrucci, had ideally started the countdown for the continental appointment, starting from – 100. On that occasion, bags had announced the will to still rely on the group and team involved in the Tokyo Games. The federal president had hoped that the team would continue its growth after the excellent results at the Olympics, especially for a tournament that after 31 years will also return to Italy. The Azzurri are included in group C which includes Ukraine, Great Britain, Croatia, Estonia and Greece of Nba superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
