Born in Bergamo on November 15, 1992, Goggia has been a winner from a very young age. Her sports career has been a continuous exploit of results. The 2016-2017 season has consecrated her among the greats of her, with a record of 11 podiums in the World Cup and the incredible double obtained in South Korea, where she triumphed both in downhill and in Super G.
Gold won in Pyeongchang
In 2018, after the five-circle gold won in Pyeongchang, the blue also won the Downhill World Cup with only 3 points ahead of her great friend and rival, the American Lindsey Vonn. Yet another injury suffered by her in October 2018, the fracture of the fibular malleolus, does not prevent her from putting silver in super G at the Aare World Championships around her neck. The 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons are also marked by injuries, first of which a displaced fracture of the left radius and then a sprained trauma to the right knee that forced her to miss the 2021 World Cup at home in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Once again, however, Goggia was able to get up again by winning his second downhill cup.
Partial injury of the cruciate ligament
With the Olympia delle Tofane, one of his favorite tracks, Goggia has a bittersweet relationship. After being forced to skip the world championship at home in 2021, in Cortina on January 23, 2022 the blue falls disastrously in supergiant. The response of the doctors is merciless: partial injury to the cruciate ligament already operated in 2013 and a small fracture of the fibula. Recovery this time seems impossible but once again Sofia amazes the world.
