There was nothing to gain for Borussia Dortmund in the last few games against FC Bayern. The results are devastating. That should change. Ultimately, fourth place in the table and therefore Champions League qualification are in danger.
Borussia Dortmund is hoping for an end to the long series of failures in games against FC Bayern. After nine Bundesliga defeats in Munich with a total of 37 goals conceded, coach Edin Terzic is longing for a turnaround before the German classic on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky and in the WELT live ticker): “It’s just about time. Our goal is to go to Munich and finally turn things around and leave the field as winners.”
For BVB, the game against their arch-rivals is the start of a challenging few weeks with the two quarter-final games in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid as well as the games against the top teams from Stuttgart, Leverkusen and Leipzig. With just one point ahead of their pursuers Leipzig, the fourth-placed team is under pressure in the fight for Champions League qualification. “We can only afford a few slip-ups,” said Terzic.

In Terzic’s opinion, the fact that Bayern have not lived up to their expectations so far this season has little impact on the game. “What I have learned in the last few years: Bayern always show their best face against us,” commented the BVB coach.
Bensebaini will be out at BVB until the end of the season
The last success in a Bundesliga duel against Munich came at home on November 10, 2018. The recent upward trend with four competitive game wins in a row is encouraging. However, the poor result in the four games against opponents from the top 5 so far speaks against BVB, with only one point out of a possible twelve.

In the game against second-placed Terzic, in addition to the suspended Marcel Sabitzer, he will also have to do without full-back Ramy Bensebaini. “He sustained an injury to his medial ligament. It is unlikely that he will be used this season,” said Terzic. It remains questionable whether regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel will return. The 26-year-old has recovered from his muscle injury, but is currently suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. Terzic wants to decide on a deployment at short notice. On the other hand, Sébastien Haller and Julian Ryerson are sure to return to the squad.

Bayern will probably also have to do without their regular goalkeeper. Manuel Neuer is still not training with the team and is therefore unlikely to be fit in time for the classic against BVB. The goalkeeper suffered a torn muscle fiber in his left adductor while playing for the national team. In addition to Neuer, midfield youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic also ran laps on the next pitch after tonsillitis and defender Raphael Guerreiro after the forced break due to a torn muscle fiber.
