Bayer Leverkusen Sets New Record with 33 Consecutive Unbeaten Games

Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, February 23 (Reporter Liu Yang) – Bundesliga “leader” Bayer Leverkusen secured a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Mainz at home on the 23rd, extending their unbeaten run to an impressive 33 consecutive games in all competitions, setting a new record in the Bundesliga.

The match got off to an exciting start as Swiss international Xhaka scored a stunning long-range goal in the 3rd minute for Leverkusen. However, Mainz quickly responded with a header from Dominic Cole just five minutes later to level the score. It was not until the 68th minute when Andrich’s shot from outside the penalty area slipped past the goalkeeper, giving Leverkusen the lead once again.

In the 80th minute, Mainz player Ngankam was shown a yellow card for a foul but after VAR intervention, the decision was changed to a red card and Ngankam was sent off.

With this victory, Leverkusen has now won 29 matches and drawn 4 this season, surpassing Bayern Munich’s record of 32 consecutive unbeaten games set in the 2019-2020 season. Leverkusen currently leads the Bundesliga with 61 points, 11 points ahead of Bayern with a game in hand.

The team’s impressive form has made them a strong contender for the Bundesliga title this season, and fans are eager to see if they can maintain their unbeaten streak in the upcoming matches.
