CAGLIARI. The Gallurese Nicolò Cassitta climbs on the third step of the podium at the European youth sailing championship of the Laser class, which was held in Germany. Third in the Under 16 and eighth in the overall standings, the yachtsman of the Olbia Yacht Club shone at the helm of the 4.7, the Laser reserved for the very young.
Cassitta was placed in the wake of the Slovenian Zabukovec and the Greek Eleftheriadis, winner of the championship, after having scored a series of excellent part-times. He thus landed in the gold fleet, where he met the 64 strongest of the competition, which saw the participation of 245 sailors from 30 countries. And in the finals, divided into four tests, he had to deal with a strong wind, which exceeded 16 knots in intensity, too many for him, which is expressed at its best especially in medium-light winds.
The Yacht Club Olbia led by coach Marco Barabino was present in Germany with seven athletes, in addition to Nicolò Cassitta also Salvatore Falchi, Carlo Calaresu, Leonardo Locci, Emilio Dessena, Antonio Barabino and Edoardo Del Rio, all landed in the silver fleet.
