Guangdong Secures First Win of the Season with Impressive Victory Over Liaoning
The 2023-2024 Chinese Men’s Basketball Professional League (CBA) regular season witnessed an intense match on March 15th as the Guangdong team claimed their first win of the season by defeating defending champions Liaoning with a scoreline of 119:94 at home.
Despite losing all three previous encounters with Liaoning this season, Guangdong exhibited a dominant performance right from the start of the game. With efficient offense in the first quarter, they took an early lead of 33:29. The second quarter saw players Zhou Qi and Xu Jie shining both inside and outside the court, launching an impressive 11:0 attack that widened the gap to 65:51 by halftime.
Though Liaoning tried narrowing the point difference in the third quarter through continuous scoring from Zhang Zhenlin and Zhao Jiwei, Guangdong maintained their lead with a 16-point advantage. Foreign aid Wilms showcased his prowess in the final quarter, extending the point difference to over 20 points, ultimately sealing the victory for Guangdong.
Hu Mingxuan and Wilms contributed significantly, with 24 and 22 points respectively. Expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance, Guangdong head coach Du Feng praised the players’ hard work and attitude, stating, “It’s very difficult to rebuild confidence, and the players’ hard work and attitude throughout the game today were great.”
In another riveting match on the same day, the Tianjin team secured a thrilling 108:102 victory over the fifth-ranked Guangsha team at home. The standout performance came from the home team’s foreign aid David James, who hit an impressive 12 three-pointers and scored a game-high 56 points.
Meanwhile, in other CBA games played on March 15th, the Beijing team triumphed over Sichuan with a score of 96:82 at home, the Beikong team emerged victorious with a 120:105 win over the Fujian team away from home, and the Shandong team claimed a 98:92 victory over the Ningbo team in an away game.
