Rome, July 17, 2021 – Several tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday throughout France per protest against vaccinations, denounce the “dictatorship” or criticize the green pass, the health passport, with the president Emmanuel Macron and the anti-Covid measures which he recently announced as the target of the protest. President Emmanuel Macron announced a series of measures to strongly encourage the French to get vaccinated, including the generalization of the health card and a mandatory vaccination requirement for carers, to try to curb the spread of Delta variant. These measures are approved by a large majority of French people, according to a poll released Tuesday. The head of state wants to “place restrictions on unvaccinated rather than all”, as the health pass allows people to check whether or not they have been vaccinated at the entrance to various public places such as cafes, restaurants and shopping centers.

The measures

The merchants who will not respect the new rules will be liable to one fine of up to 45 thousand euros and of one year in prison, we read in article 1 of the draft law. Among other things, the text creates a new one reason for dismissal. The health pass requirement to access restaurants, bars and other public transport venues and transportation will take effect from first of August, while for places of culture and leisure as early as 21 July. All citizens over the age of 12 must have a pass to access the places provided for by the measure. The same is true for employees of restaurants and bars, for whom there is however a derogation until August 30, as well as for the 12-17 year-olds.




The measures will be presented to the Council of Ministers on Monday before a parliamentary race against time in the face of the spread of the Delta variant. The aim is to have the text definitively adopted by the end of the week.

The squeeze for foreign visitors

It was also today the news of the new French squeeze on the entrances of foreign visitors. Who comes to France from United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and the Netherlands, in fact, he will have to present a negative Covid test carried out in the last 24 hours. The measure will take effect from Monday, reads a press release by Prime Minister Jean Castex. And, the note specifies, it concerns unvaccinated travelers.
