In Queyras the memory of the gesture of the Marches that contributed to the success of the teammate’s pink race. Idea supported by the Foundation and the family to remember an important moment in Michele’s career

A plaque was discovered today in Queyras, at the foot of Colle dell’Agnello, at the point where Michele Scarponi, on May 27 at the 2016 Giro, set foot on the ground to wait for his teammate Vincenzo Nibali. The rider from the Marches alone and on the run, stopped to wait for his captain to help him in his quest to win his second Giro d’Italia. The idea was strongly desired by the Foundation and the family to commemorate an important moment in Michele’s cycling career. A gesture that catapulted Scarponi into the history of cycling. The chosen day coincides with one of the dates scheduled for the “Legendary climbs” – promoted by the Départment des Hautes Alpes with the Terre del Monviso and by the Montane Unions of the Po, Varaita, Maira, Grana and Stura Valleys – with the closure to traffic of the climb of the Colle dell’Agnello.
