UDINE. The era of streaming football is struggling to take off. A proof came yesterday afternoon, when Dazn accused a blackout that sent football fans from all over Italy into a rage just minutes from the kick-off of Sampdoria-Napoli and Torino-Lazio.
Not the usual wheel perhaps caused by an inadequate connection, but a screen is the mocking writing “Try again” on a yellow background to accompany the phrase “something went wrong. Sorry, an error has occurred on Dazn ”and the mysterious code 10-000-000.
A blackout that has obscured all types of equipment: smart TVs, personal computers, smartphones and google chromecast. From 6.30 pm and until late in the evening, the hashtags #DAZN and #DAZNOUT ended up in trend on Twitter, where football fans flocked to vent their anger.
For an abundant twenty minutes we went on trial and error: check the connection, restart the router, log out of the application and then log in again. None of this brought results, then around 7 pm Dazn started working again and subscribers to the streaming platform were able to follow the two games that started at 6.30 pm and the “goal zone” with alternating connections from Marassi and the Grande Torino stadium. Too late to calm the anger of those who trusted Dazn in the summer.
Even the message posted on the social channels of Dazn Italia at 19.32 with the promise of refunds was not enough for the television audience. «We have taken steps to solve the problem, we apologize to all of you for what happened. All impacted users will be contacted to receive compensation ».
At 19.57, less than an hour before the kick-off of Roma-Udinese, another communication via social media: «We invite users still impacted by the inefficiency to close the app using the appropriate function. Then it will be enough to reopen it ». Fortunately, the vision of the Olimpico match went off without problems: at 8.15 pm the connection for the pre-match started regularly.
In Italy, in short, the transition from satellite (after years of Sky monopoly) to streaming continues with a lot of turbulence. It is not only Dazn who makes football fans turn up their noses: last week Infinity + recorded similar problems for the first day of the Champions League, especially for Liverpool-Milan. Instead, Amazon Prime held up with Inter-Real Madrid.
