The DFB announces the Nagelsmann deal with a strange video

Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract with the DFB until 2026. The 36-year-old will remain national coach beyond the European Championships. The association issues a classic press release, but also publishes a raccoon video.
Julian Nagelsmann remains national coach. Two months before the European Championship, the 36-year-old extended his contract with the German Football Association (DFB) until 2026. The contract expires after the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The contract extension is a coup for the DFB, after all FC Bayern wanted to bring Nagelsmann back to Munich as Thomas Tuchel’s successor. But the national coach decided in favor of the DFB team and against an immediate future as a club coach.
The DFB announced the good news for him with a video on his Instagram account, among other things. “Just do it. Talk about it less, do more,” says Nagelsmann and laughs mischievously. DFB sports director Rudi Völler then sums it up: “Yes, we made it clear to you. Julian stays.”

The association also celebrated the contract extension in the story of the Instagram account. After screenshots of online articles, a photo of Nagelsmann can be seen along with the words “Julian stays”. Suddenly a raccoon appears above the photo, dancing to loud music.

The song “Pedro” by Agatino Romero and Raffaella Carra has been trending on social media for weeks in connection with the hashtags “Raccoon”, “Raccoons” and “Racoon”. The DFB jumped on the bandwagon with the video.

Unlike in the Instagram video, national coach Nagelsmann talked a little more in the DFB’s official announcement and justified his contract extension with the DFB: “This is a decision of the heart. It is a great honor to be able to coach the national team and work with the best players in the country. With successful, passionate performances we have the chance to inspire an entire country.”
